GALLERY OF WORKS
Gallery 8, "Junkanoo" is
the newest addition to this site. The Photographs in this
gallery were made on New Years eve 2006/2007 during the
Junkanoo Celebration in Nassua in the Bahamas. The celebration
starts at 2am after church services and continues throughout
the night and all the next day. Various church and civic
groups compete by creating beautiful costumes and elaborate
marching band routines for the honor of being declared "Best
of Junkanoo." The whole affair is a curious mixture
of religion and pirates. There is no real financial gain
to be had as what prize money there is is used by the winning
groups to prepair for next years competition.
The 9 photographs in this gallery are but a sample of the
hundreds of images I made that night. They are NOT to be
taken as documents of the event, but rather my IMPRESSION
and FEELING of it. The photographs themselves have been
highly manipulated, both in Camera and in the Computer.
My intention in this gallery was more artistic interpretation
than historical fact.
